The Duke of Richmond

As Goodwood Revival – an immersive celebration of vintage cars and fashion – approaches, the 11th Duke of Richmond, Charles Gordon-Lennox, reflects on what inspired him to create the world’s most spectacular historic motor racing event.
Chatting in his private office, surrounded by extraordinary racing memorabilia, Charles talks about great old racing cars, driven by motor sport legends past and present, which are at the heart of the event. He’s equally as passionate about it being a vibrant celebration of second-hand style and sustainability, with powerful messages around looking after things and passing them on.
Race-goers dress from the period between 1948-1966 which honours the original lifespan of the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The circuit was brought back to life after World War II by the Duke’s grandfather – a car designer, engineer, and successful racing driver.
